“Spring. Woman. Love” – Exhibition of Visual Art

15.03.2007 - 25.03.2007

A presentation of: paintings, graphics, photographs and sculpture

An exhibition of visual arts: “Spring. Woman. Love.” was held in the Museum Centre Art Gallery from 15th to 25th March 2007. – The second in a series of seasonal displays at this exhibition venue (the ‘Seasons’ cycle began last autumn). Canvas paintings, sheets of graphics, sculptures, works of decorative fine art and also photographic compositions were presented.

In total, hundreds of works, by over 110 artists – well-known, as well as debutant; professional as well as amateur - were displayed in the exhibition.

Alongside Azerbaijanis, foreign artists also sent their works for display – from Iran, the Czech Republic and New Zealand.

This spring exhibition had particular significance as the Novruz Bayram holiday has special status in Azerbaijan at this time. Accordingly, the themes of the exhibits on display were not restricted to the subject of spring and obeisance to the beauty of woman, but also reflected the ancient traditions and symbolism of Novruz.

The three words in the exhibition title did not limit artists to a specific genre – also on display were purely abstract and exclusively decorative works, not directly linked to a seasonal theme. The point was to communicate the mood of Spring... A bull carrying on its back the beautiful, sleeping and naked Europa, a bouquet of graceful phlox, candle flames in a Novruz ‘khoncha’...

The Exhibition poster showed works by Niyaz Najafov, Sara Manafova, Nazim Mammadov and Vugar Muradov.

93 artists participated in the exhibition.
