We live in a world of global changes and grandiose events. Expanding global integration
processes and their inevitably concomitant social and mass cultural unification and
standards are making the visual arts especially valuable to us. These arts are capable of
preserving and passing on the unique nuances of the world's cultural traditions and the
artist's brightly individual view on any topic and aspect of reality.
Photography, the most democratic and easily available art for people of various ages
from different social groupings due to state-of-the-art technologies, is today becoming
especially important to the world's social medium because of its uniquely wide journalistic
attributes.
The challenges of the time shape new world-views and the language of modern art reacts
to these changes in time with the indicator of social development. The brutality of our
civilization erases semitones and nuances in the tense rhythm of everyday life. It is becoming
more valuable for us to be able to see, in a still frame, unique historic moments and the
subtlest features of the wild, which obeys the eternal laws and is barely surviving next to
us; to "hear" the voice of a whistling thrush; to notice a tiny window's tense and eager
"gaze" at the world from a dull, oily and rigid concrete wall; to stop rushing and contemplate;
and to plunge into the worlds of other cultures, faiths and traditions, obeying the
magic of the art of photography. Empathizing and sympathizing with persons and events,
which earlier seemed to be remote and insignificant to you and passed by almost unnoticeably,
are all possible at the vernissage of the Third International Photo Contest Traditions
and the Present Day named after Mouslim Eldarov, in Baku.
The competition, which is held once in four years, has already gathered, as usual, a large
and unique group of participants. The easily recognizable style of the maestros of modern
photography is followed by spontaneity of perception and the acuteness of decisions
by creative photographers of various mentalities.
The ideologist and the organizer of the Baku International Photo Contest Traditions and
the Present Day, Mouslim Eldarov, after whom the contest is named, regards the competition
as a forum for advanced art trends and progressive ideas, which are constantly
updated and developing in terms of integration and mutual enrichment of modern civilization
cultures. As one of the outstanding representatives of Azerbaijan art, an active
pubic figure and a sponsor of national culture overseas, Mouslim Eldarov is a man of the
world, who has always taken the lead and seen excellent prospects for change. All of his
projects have an acute sense of modernity. One of his basic desires was to introduce
Azerbaijan's culture and development potential to the world as soon as possible. Each
project that Mouslim Eldarov, who is also the vice president of the Baku Arts Centre,
has implemented - the Humay Azerbaijani culture centre and gallery in London, the
British publishing house CASPIAN, the Great Silk Road global news agency and the
Traditions and the Present Day Photography Contest - are information channels with
many routes open for international cooperation.
The uniqueness of the views and stylish provision of materials came naturally for the
majority of the contest works in terms of creativity. The popularity of the photography
exhibition named after Mouslim Eldarov is expanding with each passing year. The jury
has voiced its confidence that participation in the contest will become more active and
its geographic coverage will increase. The mutually enriching creative dialogue between
photo artists of Azerbaijan and guest participants from 15 countries has already continued
for 10 years, making great achievements in modern photography. It has turned into
a dynamically developing portal, which is growing from competition to competition and
opening new nomination categories that highlight current trends in photography,
increasingly gathering new bright names.
The jury of the Baku-2009 Third International Photo Contest Traditions and the Present
Day named after Mouslim Eldarov congratulates all the participants and wishes them
further creative successes.
It is presented in exposition 150 works, selected juries more than from 2000 works, sent on photographic competition.
Main purpose of photographic competition is distribution and exchange of positive achievements in culture and humanitarian area as a whole, association of international efforts in name world and progress of peoples.
Formation of society of big opportunities, human tolerance and rapprochement of people with the help of culture.
In connection with this art photos, being answers in itself with most mass and accessible kind of art creativity to the full to these ideas, acting with certain powerful tool, with help of which still one opportunity of realization of put problems is opened.
