“Hello Novruz”, a Children’s Festive Holiday Performance

Following Azerbaijan’s Initiative, the United Nations Organisation has Declared 21 March to be International Novruz Day


The Museum Center of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has held many different events for children in 2010, within the project ‘Museum to Children’. These events have included thematic lectures, exhibitions of children’s’ paintings, theatre performances, holiday events etc. On 18 March 2010, the Museum Center, together with the Russian Cultural Information Centre in Baku, held a children’s’ festive performance, “Hello Novruz”, dedicated to the Novruz holiday.
Children look forward to this best-loved, ancient and joyful holiday in Azerbaijan; they prepare for a long time in advance, because Novruz is a holiday of rebirth, peace and kindness. The performance began with an exhibition of children’s paintings. Pupils of Boarding School No 13, Buzovna Settlement presented 29 paintings on paper and fabric, painted in molten wax. The young artists displayed a great deal of fantasy and inventiveness in their paintings. The painters of the best works were awarded letters of gratitude from the Russian Cultural Information Centre and gifts from the sponsors. There was a concert in the Museum Center’s Assembly Hall by the pupils of Boarding School No 13. The children recited poems, sang and danced.
In addition, the children presented participants with sweets they had made especially for the occasion.
Then ‘Gunay’ children’s theatre then continued the celebration with a performance. The young actors played extracts from ‘Arshin Mal Alan’ for the audience.
