A 60th anniversary exhibition by Sahhat Veysov, a talented artist and a member of the Azerbaijani Artists’ Union will be organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The opening of the exhibition will be held in the Art Gallery of the Museum Centre on 20 June 2013.
Veysov’s works have a characteristically unique artistic touch, with the power of Eastern and Western art traditions. They portray national themes in conditioned, stylized and occasionally abstract forms, employing fairy tale heroes and mythological characters on canvas in this unique style.
Although those of his works preserved in the collection of the Azerbaijani State Art Gallery have been displayed in various exhibitions, there has not been a solo exhibition for some considerable time. Paintings, graphics and sculptures embracing about 40 years of the artist’s career will be on display.
We should note that Sahhat Mahmud oghlu Veysov was born in Baku in 1953. In 1978 he graduated from the Art faculty of the M. A. Aliyev Azerbaijan State Art Institute. He has participated in various republic, union and international exhibitions since 1968. At the age of 15-16 the artist had solo exhibitions in Baku (1968) and Moscow (1969). He became a member of the USSR Artists’ Union in 1986. His special talent was recognised in 1968 when the Azerbaijan Party Central Committee assigned him a special scholarship until graduation from higher education. In 1988 he was issued the Lenin Komsomol award for his series of works ‘Azerbaijani Music and Poetry’. He has not restricted himself to painting, also writing articles about art history and literature.
